Airplane games will differ depending on what sort of experience you are looking to acquire. Do you love games where there is an arcade or combat style feel or do you prefer a more realistic fly simulator?
Let’s look at both types of games and see, which one will fit our personal style.
We will then look at some of the more popular airplane games that you can play on your PC.
Airplane Games – Xbox and PS3 Are Arcade/Combat Style
Gamespot ranks their games from a 1.0 to 10 scale. A game rated as a 1.0 would be considered utterly forgettable and a complete waste of time and 10 would be what you would call gaming heaven. None of the games on Xbox 360 or PS3 rated higher than 7.5, which basically means that it is a good game, appealing to fans of the genre.
- Apache: Air Assault – 7.5 Rating
Is a modern combat flight simulation game where players control a variety of lethal Apache attack helicopters outfitted with military weaponry.
- IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey – 7.5 Rating
This World War II flight sim offers thrilling dogfighting in both simulation and arcade-style gameplay, but it’s hampered by frame rate issues and glitches.
- Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions of WWII – 7.0 Rating
Blazing Angels 2 is a clear improvement over the previous game, though history buffs will probably hate the game’s fictional missions.
- Heroes Over Europe – 5.0 Rating
Dogfight in the skies above Europe as you follow the stories of three Allied pilots during WWII.
Plane Games For Your PC
- Microsoft Flight Simulator X – 8.4 Rating
Came out in late 2006 and is one of the more popular titles in their flight simulator series.
- Falcon 4.0: Allied Force – 8.9 Rating
Falcon 4.0 is an exacting simulation of the F-16 Fighting Falcon. In the game you’ll try your hand at dogfighting and dropping munitions on enemy installations.
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight – 8.8 Rating
What makes this game so fun is you get to fly various airplanes from the original Wright Flyer by the Wright brothers to a modern day Boeing 747.
One of the things that makes these PC games so fun and realistic is that you can purchase rudder pedals and a yoke for steering. There are a number of different options to choose from if you wish to take your flying experience to a more realistic level. CH Products makes a highly rated yoke and pedals that are reasonably priced.
Pro Flight Simulator Game
The one airplane game that I’ve enjoyed above the rest is Pro Flight Simulator. Unlike some of the other flight sim games, it offers so much choice. Choose from over 150 different aircraft from planes to helicopters, and even a zeppelin if you so choose.
And with over 20,000 different airports to choose from, and synced with google maps, you’ll be flying in real time weather. If it is raining in Texas, you’ll be getting the same rain in your game if you are flying over Texas.
At first, with so many options it seems a little overwhelming, but everything is kept in specific categories and once you realize that, it makes this one of the more fun and realistic airplane games you can play on the market.
